Partner with the School of Computing

Discover how your business can engage with our talented computing students. Partner with us to shape the future of tech talent while boosting your organisations visibility.

We invite businesses and employers to get involved with our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. You’ll help our students gain real-world insights, refine their skills and explore future career opportunities.

By collaborating with us, you can:

  • showcase your company and what you do
  • inspire the next generation of computing professionals
  • identify and nurture future talent early

Our students are eager to learn how their skills apply in the real world. Your insights can guide them in developing the right attributes to succeed after they’ve graduated.

Why partner with us?

  • Our graduate outcomes are often 90% positive.
  • Build your employer brand among tech-savvy students.
  • Collaborate with our expert lecturers, faculty and careers team to create tailored engagement opportunities.

How to get started

If you’re interested in any of the below opportunities, contact our Computing Employability team.

Our team can help you explore which options would be mutually beneficial and any time scales involved.

Opportunities to get involved

You can work with us and our students in various ways.

Some of these activities run year-round, while others are specific to key dates during the academic year.

Guest lectures

Bring your expertise into the classroom and share how a subject or technique is applied in the real world. This enriches our students’ experience and is also a great way for you to promote your organisation and what you do.

Guest lecturing is also a great way to influence and inform the future workforce.

We actively welcome one or two external voices in many of our modules – get in touch to explore which ones are the best fit for you.

Data science group projects

Our Data Science MSc includes an innovative module, ‘Data Science in the Wild’. Our students work in groups to creatively explore how data science can be applied to challenges businesses are facing.

We look for a mix of companies every year.

Get in touch if you’re interested in knowing more.

Work experience opportunities

Opportunities to gain work experience are very popular among many of our students.

You can offer students practical experience through:

  • year in industry placements
  • summer internships
  • flexible part-time internships

Our placements and internships team can help:

  • set-up and advertise positions to the appropriate students
  • assist with financial support – we do not encourage unpaid work
  • help you with screening, selecting and interviewing applicants

If you don’t have vacancies available – a guest lecture or sponsorship opportunity might be a better option.

Careers and computing fairs

Meet students face-to-face at our student-industry networking event, The Computing Fair. It’s held every semester in the Urban Sciences Building.

This event is for employers with a focus on:

  • computing
  • data science
  • tech talent

Newcastle University also runs a university-wide Careers Fair which is available each semester. This is perfect if you’d like to reach a wide range of students across our university.

Get involved:

Industry projects and dissertations

Shape student research by offering real-world problems for student projects and MSc dissertations.

This is a great way to explore potential solutions for your business challenges. Some research problems can be explored through student projects, but we also provide commercial research opportunities.

We host research showcase events throughout the year. To be invited to our research showcase, contact our team.

Student societies and networking

Sponsor or join different student events run by our student societies, including hackathons and informal networking opportunities.

There are three student societies in the School of Computing that you can collaborate with:

  • Newcastle University Computing and Technology Society (NUCATS)
  • CyberSociety
  • Game Dev Society
Employability skills enhancement

Help students prepare for the workforce through mock interviews and assessment centre practice, with the support of our Careers Service team.

Our Careers Service team run these practice sessions to support our students, but they’re always keen to get employers involved. Not only is it refreshing and insightful for our students, but it’s also a great way of developing your existing staff and giving back.

Sponsor student prizes

Boost your brand visibility by sponsoring academic prizes for students in subject areas relevant to your business.

Event sponsorship

Promote your business by sponsoring events or advertising in the Urban Sciences Building, home to the School of Computing.

You’ll have year-round visibility to students, academics, industry and the public. Our space, screens and event materials are available.

Sponsorship directly benefits the student experience.

I have managed three computer science students and I have been impressed each time. They have taken every opportunity to learn as much as they can. They have added value to the teams they joined by contributing new ideas and suggesting improvements.
