Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia Tender Notice
Newcastle University UK established an international branch campus in Johor, Malaysia in 2009 providing Foundation Certificate in Biological and Biomedical Sciences and undergraduate degrees in Medicine (MBBS) and the Biomedical Sciences (BSc). Currently, NUMed has approximately 750 students and 150 staff.

Condition
- The Proprietor or Company needs to have a valid Certificate of Registration with the Registrar of Business / Companies Commission of Malaysia.
- The Company profile is to be submitted.
- The Operator must ensure its employees are trained in food handling prior to commencing work in compliance with the Food Hygiene Regulation 2009, Clause 11 (1b).
- All employees, especially food and beverage handlers, are required to comply with food safety requirements. Mandatory for food handlers to be given the Typhoid Injection, and their Health Certificates to be presented for verification.
- The Operator must ensure that the kitchen and food operations will be led by an experienced and well-trained kitchen manager.
Other Criteria
- The Operator must be pork and lard free and abide to the “HALAL” practices adopted by NUMed.
- The Operator must demonstrate effort to promote sustainability through means of technology, source-verified and environmentally friendly purchasing including minimal use of plastic packaging and utensils and resource conservation.
- The Operator must be able cater to diverse food requirements, such as Asian, Western, Vegetarian and Ala Carte menu.
Cafe Service Expectations and Timing
- The operator shall operate from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm during teaching semester.
- The operator is not required to operate during the weekends except when there is a request from NUMed to open for operation to support the events held in Campus.
- The cafeteria shall be closed during Public Holidays.
- The Operator is responsible for keeping the cafe open from January to December. Any temporary closure of the business location, except on official public holidays, must be approved by the Cafe Committee in advance.
- The Operator must be able to sign up for cashless payment solutions (such as Grab Pay, e-Wallet) as an alternative of cash payment.
- In order to guarantee a high level of food safety and cleanliness, the Operator must also create and carry out a regular inspection programme.
Subsidy and Privileges
- The institution has two permanent venues for the cafe which specialized in the following food service.Tyne Cafe - Asian Food and Garden Cafe - Western / Pastries.
- NUMed provides free rental of the kitchen and the cafeteria premises.
- NUMed provides free charges of the utilities such as electricity and water consumptions provided that the Operator did not waste or mishandle such usage.
- Kitchen utensils, equipment, e.g. cooker, refrigerator, oven, cash register and POS system etc for the operations of the cafeteria will be supplied by NUMed.
