Tuition Fee Instalment Dates

Students can pay tuition fees in full to receive a 2% early payment discount.

Self-funding students

Undergraduate and Foundation September intake

Students who register for the full academic year (which starts in September) are offered two instalment options:

  • payment in full: pay your tuition fee liability in full during the registration period to receive a 2% early payment discount (terms and conditions apply)
  • payment in two instalments: 50% of the tuition fee balance paid before the registration date and 50% paid by 31st January
Foundation May intake

Students who register for the full academic year (which starts in May) are offered two instalment options:

  • payment in full: pay your tuition fee liability in full during the registration period to receive a 2% early payment discount (terms and conditions apply)
  • payment in two instalments: 50% of the tuition fee balance paid before the registration date and 50% paid by 31st October

**For new students, you may deduct your deposit against the full tuition fee or the first semester tuition fee if you wish to pay in two instalments.

With effect from AY24/25, we will no longer be issuing tuition fee invoices to students. If you are registering for your first year of study, you can find your tuition fee on your offer letter.

If you are a returning student and require evidence that payment is owed to the University, you can request a tuition fee invoice from the Finance team. 

If you're not registering for a full academic year, or are registering mid-way through an academic year, then different payment terms may apply. For more information contact the numed-finance@newcastle.edu.my.

Sponsored students

You are a sponsored or funded student if you are:

  • externally sponsored (where an external organisation is paying tuition fees on your behalf)
  • internally funded (where a University school or service is providing a scholarship or funding towards your tuition fees)

The University will only define a student as sponsored if the tuition fees are being paid by a funding organisation on their behalf and the funding organisation will pay the tuition fee balance directly to the University. Students whose tuition fees are being paid by their parents or guardians are classed as self-funded.

Letter of sponsorship

The Finance team require a letter of sponsorship from a funding organisation as proof of sponsorship before any funding is applied to a student’s record. This letter must be on official letter headed paper and include the following:

  • student name
  • the course they are studying
  • duration of sponsorship that the letter covers
  • monetary value of the sponsorship (in RM) being paid towards tuition fees
  • address to which the invoice should be posted
  • confirmation that fees will be paid directly to the University

Email a copy of the letter to numed-finance@newcastle.edu.my quoting the student number in the email. You will be classed as a self-funded student by the Finance team until we receive your sponsor letter. 

Sponsor letters from previous academic years will not be accepted unless they cover the full duration of the course. The University reserves the right not to accept sponsorship letters that do not fulfil the above criteria.

Payment of sponsorship

Upon submission of a valid sponsor letter, sponsorship will be applied to the student record and the Finance team will invoice the sponsor for payment following student registration. Our payment terms require payment of the invoice by the 31st October and 31st January instalment deadlines. It is important that you make your sponsor aware of this prior to supplying your sponsor letter to the University.

Should a sponsor or embassy default on the payment of tuition fees then the responsibility for payment of the fees will revert to the student.

Late payment of fees

If you're unable to pay your tuition fees by the tuition fee instalment date, you must email to numed-finance@newcastle.edu.my immediately to discuss further.

Late payment charges

If no payment is received after the deadline:

  • A late payment interest of 0.5% per month will be charged on the outstanding balance of RM5,000 and above. For outstanding balances of less than RM5,000, a late payment fee of RM150 per instalment will be charged.
  • Subsequent individual reminders will be sent to students to advise the latest outstanding balance on a monthly basis.
  • If there are outstanding fees after the first individual reminder, access to IT accounts and University controlled facilities such as IT clusters and the Library will be suspended as follows:

  •  If there are still outstanding fees thereafter, the following sanctions may be imposed:
    1. denial of the opportunity to sit University examinations or to have assignments assessed
    2. denial of access to other University facilities, or such sanctions as may be approved from time to time by the Programme Dean or Director
    3. withholding of exam result
    4. exclusion from going to the UK for Electives, SSC, Exchange
    5. non issuance of CAS letters
    6. non issuance of recommendation letter from the Dean for their visa to the UK for Foundation training
    7. exclusion from further study in the University

Any students who owe tuition fees will not be allowed to re-register at the start of the next academic year and will not be permitted to graduate.

Any outstanding debt will be referred to an external collection agency and, if necessary, legal action will be instigated.
