Aims

This module is designed to provide understanding of fundamental control and modelling concepts and their application in bioprocessing systems. These issues will be complemented by the introduction of engineering appreciation of bioprocesses and their development.

Outline Of Syllabus

Topics covered will include major bioreactor design aspects such as mass and heat transfer, mixing, instrumentation and control as well as Quality by Design and advanced modelling of bioprocesses.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship

The lectures will introduce basic concepts of control, biochemical engineering, bioreactor design and operation of a bioprocessing plant.

Tutorials and presentation preparation will provide hands-on experience and practice in the above areas.
