Deferred Entry

Admissions tutors in all subject areas are happy to consider applicants who wish to defer entry by one year.

Some students choose to gain wider experience and increased maturity by taking a year out. This can be used to:

  • gain work experience
  • travel abroad
  • take part in GAP projects

Show on your UCAS application how you expect to spend the year.

You can apply for deferred entry while you are still at school or college, or you can request deferred entry after submitting your UCAS application.

You may also apply after you receive your exam results. If you do this, make sure that you are contactable during the year out. You may need to accept or decline offers and answer any queries relating to your application.

Some courses at Newcastle will allow you to defer after receiving your results and accepting your place at Newcastle. This is agreed on a course-by-course basis.
