Aims
This module is designed to provide the knowledge associated with the work based practical training in the diagnosis and management of cardiac rhythm disorders.
It will provide the students with the understanding of the theoretical aspects and an appreciation of the practical aspects of working with patients who are suspected or known to have pathological disturbances of their heart rhythm.
Outline Of Syllabus
Implantable cardiovertor defibrillators
Cardiac resynchronization therapy
Device derived heart failure diagnostic information
Cardiac electrophysiology
Communication with patients and carers
Rules, regulations and guidelines relating to implantable devices

Teaching Rationale And Relationship
Lecture sessions are used to explain concepts and develop the theoretical knowledge required to understand the
causes, investigation and treatment of cardiac rhythm abnormalities.
Small group sessions are used to provide opportunity for interaction, discussions and clarification, supporting learning through the use of case study examples (for example, patients with pacemakers, implantable cardiovertor
defibrillators, cardiac resynchronisation devices and electrophysiology studies).
Students will complete the remainder of their learning through independent study, directed research and reading supported by Canvas VLE.
Assessment Methods
The format of resits will be determined by the Board of Examiners
