Aims

This module is designed to help students reflect upon and develop their skills and abilities to support their future career aspirations, and will be provided as an extra-curricular, unassessed enhancement.

The module will help to consolidate the learning from their degree programme and support their personal and professional transformation and development in becoming lifelong and lifewide learners.

The module will provide a structure so that students can engage with a range of learning opportunities, primarily workshops and student-led group activities, with a focus on practical and experiential learning activities.

Following initial experiential activities designed to foster engagement and improve cohort identity, enabling students to appreciate the careers and employability support available to them, and ensuring they can assess their own development needs, students will be able to choose from a series of practical workshops and student-led group activities to fit with their personal aspirations.

Outline Of Syllabus

Topics that will be covered include,

- Teamworking, practical experience of engaging in a team activity and reflecting on the learning gained.
- Developing as a reflexive practitioner, understanding the value of active reflective in personal and professional development.
- Personal development, understanding the importance of being self-aware, confirming development needs and actively seeking opportunities for learning and reflection.
- Developing career competences, understanding how to research opportunities, including use of networks, and developing the skills required for applying and securing opportunities.
- Development of relevant employability skills and attributes, including analysing the skills and attributes required to support the student’s personal career aspirations and how these can be enhanced during their studies.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship

The teaching methods will focus on practical and experiential learning opportunities including teamworking challenges and virtual internships.

The module will be delivered over two semesters in order to support the student learning experience, their engagement with extra-curricular activities and allow them to progress against their personal development plans.
