Aims

The module aims to provide a series of present in person sessions (with the possibility of online delivery) to students on the MSc Finance, MSc Banking and Finance, MSc Quantitative Finance and Risk Management, and MSc Economics and Finance programmes. The sessions will be designed to provide students with essential academic skills required for the modules taught on the programmes. The module also seeks to create cohort identity and support student learning related to applied and theoretical financial analysis. The module also provides opportunities for the practical application of theory in markets, finance, banking and other quantitative sectors.

The syllabus outline supports academic learning on the MSc Finance, MSc Banking and Finance, MSc Quantitative Finance and Risk Management and MSc Economics and Finance programmes. It provides essential academic skills. The main topics to be covered are (i) study skills (ii) foundation mathematical and statistical skills (iii) data collection using electronic databases (iv) practical application of theory in markets, finance, banking and other quantitative sectors.
