Grade Equivalences For: AAA

AUSTRALIA

The completion of Year 12 high school and award of Senior Secondary Certificate of Education plus ATAR score of at least 92 is recognised as comparable to AAA.

AUSTRIA

Typically, we recognise a score of 1.5 from the Matura/ Reifeprufung as comparable to an AAA at A Level.

AZERBAIJAN

Typically we recognise 90% average or GPA 4.5/5 from the first year of a Bakalavr in a relevant subject as comparable to AAA at A Level.

BAHRAIN

We typically require a minimum GPA of 3.0 or 75% in one year of Bachelor Study. This will be assessed on a case by case basis.

BRUNEI

Typically we recognise AAA in Brunei-Cambridge A Levels (including specific grades in relevant subjects) as comparable to AAA at A Level. You may be considered for first year entry with the BTV Higher National Diploma on a case by case basis.

BULGARIA

Typically we recognise 5.6 in Diploma za zavarsheno sredno obrazovanie with 5.5 in two state matura exams as comparable to AAA at A Level.

CHINA

Typically we recognise a 80% - 85% average in one year of Bachelor Degree study at a Tier 1 University and a 85% - 90% average at a Tier 2 University as comparable to AAA at A level.

You may be considered for first year entry with:

  • A pass from a university foundation programme in China at a recognised institution with at least an 80% average and 80% in relevant subjects.

    • CROATIA

    Typically we recognise a score of 5 overall in 3 subjects at higher level in the Svjedodzba o maturi as comparable to AAA at A Level.

    CYPRUS

    We would typically recognise 19 or 91% in the Cypriot Apolyterion OR 18.5 or 88% in the Cypriot Apolyterion plus A grade in one A Level as comparable to AAA at A Level.

    CZECH REPUBLIC

    Typically, we recognise a score of 1,1,1,2 in the Vysvědčení o maturitní zkoušce (Maturita/Secondary School Leaving Certificate), as comparable to an AAA at A Level.

    DENMARK

    Typically, we recognise a score of 10, 10, 10, 7 in the Bevis for Hojere Forberedelseeseksamen (HF) as comparable to an AAA at A Level.

    EGYPT

    Typically we require a minium GPA of 2.8 (70%) in one year Bachelor study in a relevant subject. This will be assessed on a case by case basis.

    FINLAND

    Typically we require a score of 6,6,6,5 in the Ylioppilastutkinto / Studentexamen as comparable to AAA at A level.

    FRANCE

    Typically we recognise 13.5 in Option International du Baccalaureat or 14 in French Baccalaureate as comparable to AAA at A level.

    GERMANY

    Typically we recognise 1.5 in the Abitur as comparable to AAA at A level. Relevant subjects may be required at Leistungskurse, grade 12 or higher.

    GHANA

    Typically we recognise AAA in Cambridge A levels (including specific grades in relevant subjects) as comparable to AAA at A level.

    GREECE

    Typically we recognise an average score of 19 in the Greek Apolytirion plus Pan-Hellenic exams as comparable to AAA at A level.

    HONG KONG

    Typically we recognise grades 5,5,5 from three Senior Secondary subjects (excluding Liberal Studies and Chinese), in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) as comparable to AAA at A Level.

    Level 3 or above is required in all other subjects.

    We also recognise AAA in Hong Kong A levels as comparable to AAA at A level. You may be considered for second year entry with a minimum GPA of 3.3 or 75% average or grade B overall in an Associate Degree or a Higher Diploma.

    HUNGARY

    Typically we recognise 5 subjects in the Erettsegi Bizonyitvany or Matura, 2 of which should be at advanced level and the scores of the 5 should be 5,5,5,5,4, as comparable to AAA at A Level.

    INDIA

    Typically we recognise a 85% average in Standard XII as comparable to AAA at A level.

    This can be awarded by:

    • Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)
    • Council for the Indian School Certificate (CISCE)
    • National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS)
    • Various state boards
    • Autonomous schools

    Actual grades required will vary depending on exam board.

    INDONESIA

    We typically require a minimum GPA of 3.5 or 75% in a D4/D3 Diploma. This will be assessed on a case by case basis.

    IRAN

    Typically we recognise 17/20 in the Pre-University Cert or the University entrance exam (Kunkur) as being comparable to AAA at A Level.

    IRAQ

    We typically require an overall minimum average of 60-65% in relevant subjects in one year of Bachelor study. This will be assessed on a case by case basis.

    ITALY

    Typically we recognise 90% in Diploma di esame di Stato as comparable to AAA at A Level.

    JAPAN

    We typically require a Vocational degree (Senmonshi) or Associate degree (Jungakushi). This will be assessed on a case by case basis.

    JORDAN

    We typically require a minimum average of 70% or 2.8/4.0 in one year of Bachelor degree study.

    KAZAKHSTAN

    Typically we recognise either:

    • GPA 3.67
    • Grade B
    • 90% average
    • including grade A or B in relevant modules

    In at least one year of a Bakalavr degree or Specialist Diploma at a recognised Kazakhstan University as comparable to AAA at A Level.

    You may be considered for first year entry with minimum 80% in a Diploma of Specialised Secondary Education.

    KENYA

    Typically we recognise AAA in Cambridge A levels (including specific grades in relevant subjects) as comparable to AAA at A Level.

    KUWAIT

    We typically require either:

    • a minimum GPA of 3.0 from one year of Bachelor study
    • or a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 or grade B average in a Technical Diploma from the College of Technological Studies awarded by PAAET

    This will be assessed on a case by case basis.

    LATVIA

    Typically we recognise 9 overall in Atestats par visparejo videjo izglitibu plus an average of 85% from 4 centralised exams as comparable to AAA at A Level.

    LITHUANIA

    Typically we recognise 9 overall in Brandos Atestatas (BA) plus 85% average in 3 State or School Matura as comparable to AAA at A Level.

    MALAYSIA

    Typically we recognise:

    • AAAAAB from 6 academic subjects excluding Chinese, Malay Language, Book Keeping and Commerce in the Unified Examination Certificate as comparable to AAA at A level
    • AAA in STPM/Malaysian Higher School Certificate as comparable to AAA at A level

    You may be considered for first year entry with:

    • GPA 3.0+ in one or two years of Bachelor degree at a public or private university
    • GPA 3.3+ in MARA matriculation from public university

    You may be considered for second year entry with CGPA 3.0+ in a diploma from a private college or polytechnic.

    MALTA

    Typically we recognise AA (advanced level subjects), AAB (intermediate level subjects) in the Advanced Matriculation Certificate Examination as comparable to AAA at A Level.

    MAURITIUS

    Typically we recognise AAA in Cambridge A levels as comparable to AAA at A Level.

    NAMIBIA

    Typically we would recognise AAA in the Cambridge Overseas Higher School Certificate (COHSC) as comparable to AAA at A Level.

    NETHERLANDS

    Typically we recognise 8.0 overall (with 8,8,8 in relevant subjects) in the Voorbereidend Wetenschappelijk Onderwijs (VWO) (Gymnasium A/B and Atheneum A/B) diploma as comparable to AAA at A Level.

    NIGERIA

    Typically we recognise:

    • overall minimum IDFP average of 70% with IELTS 6.5 in the Global International College International Degree Foundation Programme as comparable to AAA at A level
    • GPA 3.5/4.0 in the National Diploma as comparable to AAA at A level

    NORWAY

    Typically we recognise an overall GPA of 4.3 in the Vitnemal as comparable to AAA at A Level.

    OMAN

    We typically require a minimum:

    • average of 70% or 2.8/4.0 in one year of Bachelor degree study
    • or GPA 3.3/4.0 in a Higher Colleges of Technology Higher Diploma and relevant work experience

    This will be assessed on a case by case basis.

    PAKISTAN

    We typically require:

    • a minimum of 60-65% in a Pass or Ordinary Bachelor degree
    • or a minimum of 80% in a Polytechnic Diploma
    • or a minimum of 70% in a Bachelor degree in Arts, Commerce, Science or Education with Honours

    This will be assessed on a case by case basis.

    POLAND

    Typically we recognise AAA in the New Matura with 3 extended level subjects in the 80th percentile as comparable to an AAA at A Level.

    PORTUGAL

    Typically we recognise 18 in the Certificado de fim de Estudos Secundarios or Diploma/Certificado Nivel Secundario de Educacao as comparable to AAA in A Level. Subject specific grades may be required.

    QATAR

    We typically require a minimum GPA of 3.0 in one year of Bachelor degree study. This will be assessed on a case by case basis. ABB at A Level is typically the minimum required for entry to an Undergraduate course.

    ROMANIA

    Typically we recognise 9.0 in Diploma de Bacalaureatas plus 85% average from 3 written state exams as comparable to AAA at A Level.

    RUSSIA

    Typically we recognise:

    • GPA 4.5 or 90% average with specific grades or percentage in relevant subjects in at least one year of a Bakalavr at a recognised Russian University as comparable to AAA at A level
    • GPA 4.5/5.0 or 90% average in at least one year of a Specialist Diploma in a recognised Russian university as comparable to AAA at A level.

    SAUDI ARABIA

    We typically require:

    • a minimum GPA of 3.75/5.0 or 3.0/4.0 or 75%, including 75% in relevant subjects in one year of Bachelor degree study
    • a minimum GPA of 4.0/5.0 or 80% or grade B average in an Associate Degree of the College of Technology awarded by TVTC

    This will be assessed on a case by case basis.

    SINGAPORE

    Typically we recognise AAA in H2 level subjects in Singapore-Cambridge A levels/Singapore Integrated Programme Cambridge A levels as comparable to AAA at A Level. This excludes General Paper.

    You may be considered for second year entry with a minimum CGPA of 3.0 in a Polytechnic Diploma in a relevant subject from Singapore, Nanyang, Ngee Ann or Temasek Polytechnics.

    SLOVENIA

    Typically we recognise a score of 5,5,5,5,4 in the Maturitetno Spricevalo as comparable to AAA at A Level.

    SOUTH AFRICA

    Typically we recognise a Pass with grades 77766 in five subjects in the National Senior Certificate (NSC) as comparable to AAA at A Level. This excludes Life Orientation.

    SOUTH KOREA

    We typically require a minimum 90% in a Junior Diploma. This will be assessed on a case by case basis.

    SPAIN

    Typically we recognise 9.0 average in Titulo de Bachiller as comparable to AAA at A Level.

    TAIWAN

    We typically require:

    • two year Junior College Diploma (and completed Senior High School)
    • or a five year Junior College Diploma (and completed Junior High School)
    • or a minimum 70% average in one or two years of a Bachelor degree at public or private university

    This will be assessed on a case by case basis.

    THAILAND

    We typically require a minimum GPA of 3.0 having completed two years of a 4 years Bachelors. This will be assessed on a case by case basis.

    TURKEY

    Typically we recognise a 90% average with 80% or higher in relevant subjects in the Devlet Lise Diplomasi or Lise Bitirme Diplomasi as comparable to AAA at A Level. You must have taken this qualification at one of the top fifty approved schools. You may be considered for first year entry with an Onlisans Diplomasi. This will be assessed on a case by case basis.

    UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

    We typically require:

    • a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 or 75% in one year of Bachelor study
    • a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 in a Diploma from a Higher College of Technology

    This will be assessed on a case by case basis.

    USA

    You will be considered for entry to the university with a minimum GPA of 3.5 out of 4 in a High School Graduation Diploma (HSGD) plus a total of three in any combination from the following list:

    • SAT 1 with a minimum score of 650 in both elements or ACT with a minimum score of 28
    • AP test with a score of at least 5
    • SAT Subject Test with a score of at least 700

    The scores listed above are the minimum requirement for entrance to Newcastle University, some competitive programmes require higher scores.

    Each AP and SAT Subject Test counts towards the required three. For example 2x AP tests and 1x ACT is acceptable and 3x SAT Subject Tests is also acceptable. An honors or college level course with a minimum grade of A may be accepted in place of one of the above tests.

    Many of our courses require you to have a particular background in the subject you are applying to study. This is known as pre-requisite knowledge. If required, you must evidence this knowledge via relevant AP tests, SAT Subject Tests, honors or college level classes. For example, to study History BA Honours you must be able to demonstrate that you have pre-requisite knowledge of World History.

    Also considered for entry:

    • Associates Degree with a GPA of 3.2+
    • 1-2 years of US college/university study with a GPA of 3.2+ (Advanced entry may be awarded if sufficient credit has been obtained in relevant subjects)

    VIETNAM

    Typically we recognise:

    • overall GPA of 8.0 including specific grades in relevant subjects in 2 years of Bachelor degree study (Bang Tot Nghiep Dai Hoc) as comparable to AAA at A level
    • overall GPA of 8.0 in 180 credits of a College diploma or Associate Degree as comparable to AAA at A level

    This will be assessed on a case by case basis.
