Aims
To give students the opportunity to gain work-related experience in the creative industries which relate directly to their academic study, helping students develop skills and knowledge for the diverse music and creative industries ecosystem.
To enhance students’ communication and management skills.
To encourage self-appraisal and the ability to work effectively with others.
The placement may be worked partly or wholly online depending on the placement host's preferred arrangements and practical requirements.
Outline Of Syllabus
Students receive briefing sessions and training in appropriate entrepreneurial knowledge and skills and are attached to appropriate placement. Guest speakers from the Music and Creative Industries will provide insight and up to date industry knowledge.
Students will undertake their placement working approximately one day per week (or other form of arrangement as suiting the student and the host) for about 10 weeks (70 hours) where their role will be to carry out duties as agreed between placement provider and Module Leader. Assessment is based on a portfolio of evidence of competence and understanding of the role and the relation of their knowledge and skills to it, including writing up a work diary and a project/reflective report.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship
This module gives students the opportunity to practise skills in a work environment. The nature of the work placement requires students to exercise a high level of initiative and resourcefulness. Students will be assessed through the submission of a Project Work Diary and a Final Report which together form the Placement Portfolio.

Assessment Rationale And Relationship
The Placement Portfolio (diary and final report) will require reflection on and understanding of the organisation, the project and their specific role, as well as the development of their own competencies and skills. The online blog will be reviewed and formative feedback provided by the Module Leader in Semester 1.Formative feedback on a report plan will be offered in Semester 2.
In the event that the placement host could not offer the full placement hours for any reason such as an organisational closedown or reduction in available work, then the module leader would set an alternative assessment, which would take the form of a research project focused on music and the creative industries, which will be identified by the Module Leader and agreed with the student. The assessment would be on a combination of blog posts written during the placement, reflection on progress with the placement, reflection on the nature of the sector and its ecosystem, the skills and capabilities required, 25% of module marks. Semester 2 - a 3000 word report covering the time on placement and the additional agreed research project -75% of module marks.
