Aims

To allow students to develop in depth a topic which may draw on but also extend material studied in one (or more) of their English Language and Linguistics modules. To foster independent thinking and develop research skills in critical thinking, writing and presentation. These aims will be achieved by students doing independent research in an English language/linguistics topic, and writing up their results in an extended essay (5000 words). In this, they will be helped by a supervisor, i.e. a member of staff with relevant expertise in the general topic area that the student is working in.
