Aims
1. To prepare a file of work which may consist of: approx 4000 words (approx 20 pages) of script for film or television
2. To show through the file a finally shaped work or body of work along with a self-reflexive commentary on the processes, influences, and themes of the work.
Outline Of Syllabus
The syllabus for SEL3403 is a focused portfolio module for Screenwriting, encompassing self-directed study and supervision.
Students will be required to attend six tutorials throughout the year. There may also drop-in during tutors' office hours on request to discuss ongoing issues.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship
Each student must consult the module leaders with an initial proposal, submitting an opening plan/draft for comment and discussion.
All students attend the plenary session to be assigned study groups. The study groups will post progress reports on Canvas Discussion Groups.
All students attend seminars appropriate to their proposed body of work.
The meetings listed above are the basic requirement. The specific amount of time will vary from student to student. Some will attend Office Hours for brief meetings. Some will wish to have longer sessions at greater intervals after they have built a body of work.
Creative work of this sort needs both the clear overriding structure of the meetings listed above and greater flexibility in terms of the duration and frequency of further discussion.

Assessment Rationale And Relationship
In the commentary students will discuss the processes of drafting and any principles of selection. It will also discuss any relevant information about influences and themes explored in the file. It must include a bibliography of books read and events attended as evidence of research.
The weighting of marks is 80/20 where the file of original is the dominant element, and the essay/commentary constitutes the minor element.
