Aims
The module aims to review GCSE mathematics materials given that some students will not have studied maths for the two years prior to embarking on their degree programme, and/or who lack comfort with mathematics and its application.
Outline Of Syllabus
The module will review GCSE level mathematics materials which will be built on as part of ECO1010. Along with relevant terminology, this includes the practical understanding of:
1. Numbers - powers, factors, order of operations, inverse operations, fractions, percentages, rounding.
2. Algebra - interpretation, substitution, manipulation and simplification, working with and solving equations.
3. Graphs - plotting, interpreting, slope and rates of change.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship
The workshops will provide an opportunity for students, in small groups, to review GCSE mathematics materials. A number of staff will be present in each session to facilitate this revision and address any issues students might have.

Assessment Rationale And Relationship
Problem solving exercises during the workshops will allow students to identify strengths and weaknesses with GCSE level mathematics concepts, to then engage with their fellow students and the staff in attendance, to overcome any issues and build confidence.
The final NUMBAS online test will allow students to review their overall progress with the module. A clear pass will provide a strong foundation for the ECO1010 module.
