Aims

To undertake an investigative research project that demonstrates original research/analysis/investigation/thought/comment/and extends the current level of knowledge and understanding within the specific field of study.

Outline Of Syllabus

Investigative research project, the specific content of which should be agreed between student and project supervisor. Semester 1 focuses on the Project Inception Report (PIR) which plans the project activities. Semester 2 focuses on project activities and the completion of the dissertation.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship

Course is focused on a research topic within the student’s own programme of study, under the supervision of a member of staff, with additional generic guidance from the module leader on the overall approach to study management and dissertation writing.

Assessment Rationale And Relationship

Specialist knowledge and skills imparted by this module are assessed by quality of the Project Inception Report (coursework item 1) and the final Dissertation (coursework item 2). Each project is assessed specifically by the supervisor and second marker in accordance with appropriate assessment categories from the standardised marking scheme which have been agreed between student and supervisor during the project inception stage.
