The project provides Stage 3 students with an opportunity to work in an industrial setting on a project with industrial relevance.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship
Introduction to working in industry and working in teams is provided in the induction session which also covers what is expected from the students, the assessment procedures and presentation skills. Most of the module involves practical work within the industrial laboratories but also includes time for experimental design and some background work.

Assessment Rationale And Relationship
Assessment of the practical work performed during the project will be carried out by the project industrial supervisor. In addition, students will be expected to submit a final written report (6000 words) summarising the context and results. After submission of the report, students will make a presentation (15 minutes) on their work to an audience consisting of at least the industrial supervisor and a member of academic staff, who will then together conduct an oral examination (30 minutes) of the candidate. The summary slide will consist of approximately 75% project summary and 25% reflection on skills acquired and developed.
