Aims
To prepare a portfolio of work which may consist of: a complete long story; or a collection of short stories; or the opening chapters of a novel (plus a synopsis of 300-350 words).
To provide a self-reflexive commentary on the processes, influences, and themes of the work.
To develop skills in revision and feedback.
Outline Of Syllabus
There will be an initial plenary to discuss the module, and establish study groups.
Students will be required to attend six tutorials, three in semester 1 and three in semester 2.
Students will circulate work-in-progress within their study groups, and provide feedback on peers’ work-in-progress, three times in semester 1 and three times in semester 2

Teaching Rationale And Relationship
Each student attends the plenary session to learn about the module.
Each student attends three tutorials in semester 1 and three in semester 2 to report on work in progress for comment and discussion.
Each student attends three NCLA events / equivalents.

Assessment Rationale And Relationship
Students on this module focus on the production of creative prose and on a critical essay on their creative work. The essay will discuss the process of drafting their creative work. It will also discuss any relevant information about influences and themes explored in the portfolio. It must include a bibliography of books read and NCLA events attended as evidence of research.
