Aims
This module allows students enrolled in the BA in Geography and Planning and BA Architecture and Urban Planning to study Planning for one semester in another country in one of our partner institutions. The credits gained during the placement will contribute towards the students’ Newcastle University degree.
Overall, the module aims to:
-facilitate student study and life in another country
-enhance student personal development by experiencing another country, language, culture
-enable students to develop networks, by working with respected planning teachers abroad and by meeting and working with planning students in another country
-learn about planning elsewhere in Europe or beyond
-promote greater awareness of differences and similarities in planning systems and practice within Europe or beyond
-encourage students to undertake courses in subject areas not normally available in their home University.
-enhance students’ CV
Outline Of Syllabus
Students should complete successfully modules worth 40 credits (20 ECTS) while on their placement in one of the partnered institutions. Credit selection to be agreed with the Exchange Coordinator or the relevant DPD.

Assessment Rationale And Relationship
Students will select modules (in consultation with Exchange Coordinator or the relevant DPD) at host institution to the value of 40 Newcastle credits (20 ECTS). Weighted average from assessments at host institution awarded to student after consideration of equivalency documentation prepared by school. The weighted average grade is translated using translation. The exact percentage mark is confirmed via a reflective interview/presentation with Erasmus Coordinator and relevant DPD upon return to Newcastle.
Resit assessments: Any resit will be set and undertaken within Planning at the home institution rather than at host institution. The nature and format of the resit assessment will depend on the credit/ECTS value of modules failed.
