Doctoral Training Programmes for Clinicians

We host two nationally important programmes offering PhD training for clinicians.

Our faculty supports a thriving community of early career researchers completing postgraduate qualifications. We offer both PhD and MD qualification options. Visit our study pages to find out more about the range of courses we offer.

All postgraduate students are supported by our graduate school. A key role of the graduate school is to provide a comprehensive training programme. Courses cover a range of topics. Some are research related while others are designed to help you complete your studies. There are also many that explore the range of transferable skills you will develop.

4ward North Wellcome Clinical PhD Academy

A partnership between Newcastle University and Universities of Leeds, Manchester and Sheffield. Offering 5 fully funded doctoral fellowships for clinicians from any discipline each year.

CRUK Clinical Academic Training programme

We are pleased to introduce a new programme offering a dedicated clinical PhD in cancer research. More details to be announced.
