Lu Wang
Cardiothoracic Surgery Trainee
I was attracted to undertake my cardiothoracic surgery training in Newcastle because of its long-standing tradition of supporting junior doctors with academic interest. During my academic clinical fellowship years, I benefited from a well-designed package of research training and career development guidance. The professors and clinician scientists that I met at Newcastle University are both inspiring and approachable.
More importantly, I was encouraged to develop my own research ideas, which eventually became the main part of my PhD project, “Evaluation of Hypothermic Oxygenated Perfusion Ex-Vivo Heart Perfusion to Expand the Donor Pool and Improve Transplant Outcomes”.
