Funding

There are internal and external sources of funding to support your engagement work.

Enabling innovation and the ability to work with external partners, funding for engagement activity can support materials, student internships and remuneration for patient and public involvement (PPI). There are a variety of funds. Some with specific remits. It is important to always read the guidance carefully before you apply. There are usually people you can contact to ask any further questions.

PPI remuneration is important to get right, please view our University guidance.

Tilly Hale Awards

Dedicated to the memory of Tilly Hale.

Tilly Hale had Primary Biliary Cholangitis, which is a disease of the liver that can get worse over time. Tilly used her experience to push for a better patient experience. She worked as a counsellor and advocated for those who found it difficult to speak up for themselves. Her legacy continues with the Tilly Hale Awards. This is where we support involvement and engagement projects in her name.

The Tilly Hale Awards support both Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement projects. We support projects that facilitate connections with the voluntary and community sector, including patient groups (locally, regionally and nationally) to develop longer partnerships and strengthen public engagement and patient involvement in research.

Internal members of staff and students can read more about this on the internal Tilly Hale NUConnect site.

Engagement and Place Fund

The Engagement and Place (E&P) Fund intends to support the delivery of the University's Engagement and Place Strategy. It will support staff, ECRs and PGRs to deliver successful projects. This will allow the sharing of the benefits of our research and teaching outside the University.

Funded projects will focus on our institutional aspirational values and will:

  • be embedded in, and representative of, our research and education excellence
  • be creative and innovative in working for public good
  • provide ideas and solutions that will have economic and social impact

Internal members of staff and students can read more about this on the internal NUConnect Funding page.
