Training and support

The Faculty has a training and support programme for involvement and engagement to support our researchers to do good quality, meaningful work with the public.

We offer a range of resources and events to support your training in different types of engagement activities.

Internal members of staff can view our training programme and resources on our Engage FMS NUConnect SharePoint site and our NUConnect Training SharePoint site.

Newcastle Health Innovation Partners and FMS training

Newcastle Health Innovation Partners (NIHP) and FMS have come together with Creating Connections to develop a comprehensive programme of training in PPIE.

For all university colleagues, partners of NHIP and patients/public, we offer a bespoke training package. This is delivered by researchers, public involvement professionals and the public.

You can find out when the next session will be by visiting our Events page.

Cell Detectives training academy

The Cell Detectives have joined forces with the FMS Engagement team. This is to deliver a unique training programme. The programme is mainly aimed at researchers who have no or little experience of engagement and would like to do more.

They will take you through a series of workshops. The workshops will help you develop your engagement activity. Using 3D printing, they will help you design and create some custom resources. They will then support you in an engagement activity for a local school or community group.

For more information please contact the FMS Engagement Team.

University-wide training programme

The University Engagement and Place team provide an annual training programme of events.

Internal colleagues can also join our University-wide Engage and Learn Teams site. This is where we post the latest updates on events and training across the University.

Contact Ellie McGuinness for more information.

Policy Academy

The Policy Academy catalyses the impact of our research.

It helps academic and professional staff from different disciplines to:

  • engage with policymakers
  • build networks and opportunities to learn together
  • exchange knowledge and expertise

We deliver a programme of cross-cutting activities to connect research, policy and practice. This will help us find innovative solutions and benefit society locally, nationally and internationally.
