Background
My current research interests focus on cardiac regeneration and cellular senescence, my experience in clinical research ranges from clinical trials, particularly in the area of minimally invasive surgery, through to strategic leadership roles covering the breadth of medical research. Most recently this has had a focus on supporting industry through establishing partnerships with healthcare providers as well as securing European and national funding with industry partners. Have received research funding from the British Heart Foundation (BHF), Heart Research UK, NIHR (i4i stream) & Horizon 2020.
I am a board member of a large national charity, The Thalidomide Trust, and previously sat on the Board of South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a medical director and was a board trustee in the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland.
I am a consultant cardiac surgeon and currently run a busy cardiac surgery practice with a focus on complex aortic, redo and minimally invasive procedures, and have experience in basic science, clinical research, medical innovation and governance.
