Chioma completed her BSc in Public Health at Babcock University, Nigeria, and then proceeded to Finland where she had her masters and doctoral studies in Health Sciences at Tampere University.
Chioma has several years of experience in designing and executing quantitative research projects addressing different public health problems (e.g., sickness absence, unemployment, alcohol abuse among women, etc.) within the field of Social Epidemiology. She has worked with large survey and register data in both Finland and Sweden (Gothenburg University). Her latest research work before joining Newcastle University focused on identifying factors underlying increased risk of COVID-19 outcomes among immigrants in high income countries (with special focus on immigrant essential workers in Sweden). Chioma’s areas of interest include migration and health, work and health, intersectionality and health inequalities, social determinants of health, and health and labour market attachment.
Chioma has been engaged in teaching MPH courses (e.g., migration and health, health sociology) and she has supervised several MPH students’ theses.
