Courtney McNamara is Lecturer of Public Health. She uses advanced quantitative and qualitative methods to address pressing public health policy problems and has written extensively on: the health impacts of international trade, the social determinants of health inequalities, and the links between COVID-19, labour markets, and health.
She currently leads a large research project funded by the Norwegian Research Council. This project asks if trade shocks cause health to suffer and investigates which policies could help prevent any potential harms.
She is also an affiliated researcher at the Centre for Global Health Inequalities Research (CHAIN) in Trondheim, Norway, and Chair of the Trade and Health Forum within the American Public Health Association.
Courtney co-leads the module "Social Determinants of Health - Theories and Applications" and contributes to the module "Public Policy, Health, and Health Inequalities." She regularly supervises student projects, including those pursuing Master's degrees in Public Health and Pharmacy, as well as Bachelor's degrees in Biomedical Science and Psychology. Courtney also supervises PhD students in the areas of the political economy of health. She welcomes contact from prospective research degree candidates.
