Biography
In 2019, I joined Newcastle University as a Research Associate in the Policy Research Unit (PRU) in Behavioural Science. I work as part of a multidisciplinary team to conduct research in priority areas for health and social care policy.
Prior to this I was a Research Associate in the Section of Public Health in the School of Health and Related Research (ScHARR) at The University of Sheffield. I worked across two projects investigating dietary transitions in African cities. This research explored dietary environments and drivers of food choice in Ghana and Kenya to inform the development of effective interventions and policies to promote healthier diets in Africa.
In 2018, I completed my interdisciplinary PhD in public health nutrition in ScHARR funded by the Grantham Centre for Sustainable Futures. I used mixed methods to develop and evaluate a point-of-choice intervention to increase the consumption of healthy and environmentally sustainable food.
My research interests lie in the generation of evidence to inform policies to reduce health inequalities and improve health and wellbeing on a local, national and international level.
I am interested in understanding the determinants of health-related behaviours, specifically how physical and social environments influence health decisions. I am particularly interested in the determinants of diet-related non-communicable diseases and the development of prevention policies. My previous research has focussed on healthy and environmentally sustainable food choices and the relationship between nutrient quality and environmental sustainability.
I contributed to teaching on the MSc Human Nutrition programme at The University of Sheffield. I delivered lectures about 'Sustainable Diets' and 'Development and Evaluation of Nutritional Interventions'. I supervised students to complete research assignments and marked end of module assignments.
