Gez joined the NCTU as a Clinical Trials Manager in May 2023. Prior to that she worked as a Senior Research Nurse at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Trust. She has worked in clinical research for over 25 years across primary and secondary care, and has also worked for Leeds University and on a contractual basis as a Clinical Safety Officer for an IT software company. Clinically, her research roles have encompassed various specialities including neurosciences, diabetes and rheumatology however respiratory research is her main interest. Gez specialised as a Respiratory Nurse Specialist in primary care for several years which was a combined role as Research Lead. She specialised in COPD and saw complex patients who had often exhausted conventional treatment and therefore had limited options. Gez was able to introduce patients to clinical research opportunities and encouraged them to consider clinical trials as a treatment option in their respiratory care. In 2019 Gez completed a Research Masters (MSc) about improving participant uptake into clinical research studies across both primary and secondary care. She is delighted to have joined the Newcastle Clinical Trial Unit as a Trial Manager and is keen to continue working in clinical research, managing the development of new treatments for the benefits of patients.
