Staff Profile
Greg is a molecular microbial ecologist by training with an interest in utilising high throughput omic methods and classical microbiology approaches to investigate interactions between microbes (the microbiome) and the host. He has a specific interest in the gut microbiome and how this is implicated in health and disease states (Necrotising enterocolitis) of preterm infants as well as adults (Inflammatory Bowel Disease).
In addition to interrogating bacterial communities, Greg is focused on understanding relationships between bacteriophages (viruses that infect bacteria) and their bacterial host. He is especially interested in how bacteriophage infections of bacterial hosts can influence environmental fitness of the bacterial host and how this is implicated in inflammatory disease.
Gaining a greater understanding of how microbial communities are implicated in health and disease states will enable patient-specific outcome measures and facilitate precision medicine.
