Roles and Responsibilities
Helen is an experienced senior manager with over 25 years' experience of the UK Higher Education sector. She has proven demonstrable success in a number of leadership/management areas including; establishing and undertaking a re-organisation of a large professional services function. She played a lead role in the design, delivery, and occupancy of the Business Schools current building (50 million project, occupied since 2010) and was also on the Steering Group for the Frederick Douglas Centre (Teaching Centre) on the Helix site.
Helen took on the role of Head of Operations in the Faculty of FMS in September 2019, as a member of the Biosciences Senior Leadership Team, Helen works with the Institute Dean and Deputy Institute Deans and wider Faculty senior management team. Her role as a member of the Institute team is to ensure the future sustainability, growth and direction of the Institute. Helens wider portfolio includes responsibility for the Data and Communications community, supporting the Dean of Global and Director of Engagement and Place at a Faculty level.
Qualifications
Helen completed her MBA in July 2001
She completed the Chartered Association of Business School's Development Programme for Senior Managers (DPSAM) in 2005
University Mentor (October 2016) completed the Women in Academia Coaching and Mentoring Programme (Joint programme with Newcastle and Durham)
Previous Positions
Helen has been employed with the University of Newcastle upon Tyne since 1992 in a variety of roles including working for the Postgraduate Institute for Medicine and Dentistry. Prior to this she was employed by Newcastle Health Authority. Helen joined Newcastle School of Management in 2000, and then became the School Administrator in the newly formed Business School in August 2002. In 2004 she undertook a six month secondment in the Faculty of HaSS working as the Deputy Head of Administration. In September 2004 Helen became the School Manager in the Business School. Helen started as the Head of Operations in Biosciences in November 2019.
