I received my Bachelors degree in Psychology at Newcastle University in 2021. My final year project was supervised by Dr Ríona Mc Ardle which was titled "How has the Global Pandemic Impacted Psychosocial Levels in Informal Caregivers of People with Dementia: a Study Focusing on Gender Differences"
I continued my studies at Newcastle University, and undertook a Masters degree in Neuroscience. I received my MRes degree in 2022, titled "Sleep Architecture and its Perception in Mood Disorders: A Polysomnographic and Actigraphy Study", supervised by Dr Stuart Watson.
Since graduating, I have worked in clinical inpatient settings until December 2023. I am now a Research Assistant in the Brain and Movement (BAM) Research Group at the Translational and Clinical Research Institute of Newcastle University.
As part of the Translational and Clinical Research Institute, I am working on multiple projects, including ActivDem and ActivDyad. Both projects utilise digital technology to help understand ageing, neurodegenerative disorders, human movement and mobility.
ActivDem is a longitudinal project which aims to determine the psychosocial determinants of ambulatory activity decline in dementia patients. ActivDyad is a feasibility study which aims to develop digital methods to assess the degree of independence and interdependence in ambulatory activity outcomes among older adult couples.
My responsibilities include:
- Processing of digital technology data from real-world recordings
- Quantitative analysis of gait characteristics, patterns, and variability
- Qualitative analysis of physical activity and its influences
- Production of high quality publications to prestigious scientific conferences and journals
