I am a biostatistician and genetic epidemiologist with extensive experience in health research and teaching in both academic and industry settings. Since 1993, I have designed and implemented health studies, analysed clinical trials and conducted training courses in statistical analysis and research methods for government institutions, pharmaceutical companies and international organizations. I have held research and academic appointments at Imperial College London, University of Oxford, University of Göttingen (Germany) and University of the Philippines. Currently, I lead and teach modules offered in the Public Health suite of programmes at Newcastle University. I also lead the Artificial Intelligence in Health Research initiative and serve as research/statistical adviser for the NIHR Research Support Service.

My current research interests include the following:

•   Modelling techniques that could be efficiently applied to answer questions on identification of disease states, treatment efficacy, treatment cost-effectiveness and disease prevention

•   Understanding the determinants of health and disease using real world data and big data analytical tools in biostatistics, epidemiology and artificial intelligence (AI)

•   Applications of AI in biomarker studies, healthcare and clinical trials

•   Population and family-based analysis methods in genetics

I am currently engaged in several MRC and NIHR funded studies as co-investigator and senior statistician. I serve in various trial steering committees and data monitoring committees nationwide. I also serve in the Newcastle ethics committee and in the AI Working Group. Having been involved in international consortiums, I am open to international research collaborations in my current fields of interest.
