Background

Michelle is the Knowledge Exchange Broker for the NIHR School for Public Health Research (SPHR) working as part of the School’s core operations team. Michelle is responsible for delivering the NIHR SPHR Knowledge Exchange Strategy. In addition, Michelle is a Lecturer at Edinburgh University, teaching on the Science Communication and Public Engagement MSc Programme. Prior to joining Newcastle University, Michelle worked at SEFARI Gateway, Scotland's Centre of Expertise for Knowledge Exchange and Impact, for 10 years. This followed 15 years working as a Medicinal Chemist in the Pharmaceutical Industry.

Established in April 2012, the NIHR SPHR is a partnership between nine leading centres of academic public health research excellence. With a total budget of >£25 million over 5 years, the School aims to build the evidence base for effective, inclusive and equitable public health practice by bringing together England’s leading public health research expertise in one virtual organisation and building capacity in public health research.
