Dr Nick Meader

Background

My background is in medical statistics, psychology, evidence synthesis and health technology assessment. Before coming to Newcastle, I worked at CRD, University of York for approximately 10 years, followed by University College London and the Royal College of Psychiatrists.


Responsibilities:

  • Programme Lead Diagnostics for the NIHR Innovation Observatory
  • Deputy Director of Newcastle Technology Assessment Review group (NICE)
  • Oversight group member of Newcastle External Assessment Group (NICE)


I am also a member of the statistical advisory group at the British Journal of Psychiatry



Research

My research interests fall into four main areas:

  • Identification and evaluation of innovative medical technologies - including the use of rapid appraisal methods and predictive modelling
  • Effectiveness of mental health interventions and psychiatric epidemiology
  • Evidence synthesis methods such as network meta-analyses, diagnostic/prognostic meta-analyses, structural equation modelling, combining real-world evidence and trial data.
  • Speeding up the process of risk of bias assessment in evidence syntheses
