Research
During my PhD project titled 'Microenvironmental characterization of isolated islets and their endogenous niche towards bioengineering a microtissue for beta-cell replacement therapy' I investigated the impact of the isolation process on the islet of Langerhans and their microenvironment and explored different tissue engineering approaches to improve viability, function and morphology of these. Currently I am working on a project funded by the CF Trust investigating the impact of cystic fibrosis on islets and in more detail I am interested how the fibrotic environment of cystic fibrosis combined with the impaired function of CFTR impact on islet differentiation status and function.
Teaching
I am co-supervising BSc, MRes and PhD students.
