Dr Thomas Foley
Academic Clinical Fellow
Tom has been a visitor in the Health Economics Team at Newcastle University since 2010 and is Principal Investigator on the Health Foundation Funded, Learning Healthcare Project. He is also a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and Senior Clinical Lead for Data at NHS Digital. He has active collaborations with several other Universities and is a Fellow of the Faculty of Clinical Informatics.
Tom's research is focused on Learning Health Systems, but he has written policy reviews for The Health Foundation, NHS England, Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, Royal College of Psychiatrists and others. He wrote the chapter on digitising General Practice for the Wachter Review, which set the current NHS IT strategy. He co-lead the Mental Health element of the Topol Review, that aims to determine the likely impact of technology on the healthcare workforce over the next 20 years.
Tom has also worked with CQC and GMC. Prior to retraining in Medicine at Newcaslte, Tom worked as a Management Consultant for PwC and BDO, after completing a degree in Software Engineering at Durham and an MPhil focused on Economics and Public Policy at Cambridge.
