I am the Technical team lead for the Leech building, but I have worked for the University for over 14 years as a Research Technician working in the Solid Tumour Target Discovery group, where my main research focus was Prostate cancer and Stem cells.
I am experienced in a range of laboratory techniques, specialising in molecular pathology and bio-imaging, specifically; Immunohistochemistry, Immunofluorescence, Microtomy and FACS. I also ran the Aperio virtual pathology imaging system, providing training in automated analysis of stained tissue slides. Based on this I co-founded the HAPI Group (Histology and Pathology Interest Group). Newcastle University has a number of well-established and talented histology groups wide spread across its campus. HAPI aims to connect and expand this community by providing a platform to share skills and expertise, discuss best practices and new technology and ultimately drive collaborations and method development.
I have been a registered scientist since 2015 and now I am an assessor for the IST and the Science Council.
I have established and co-ordinate the 6th form work experience programme, designed to show 6th form students what it is like working in a lab.
