External Fellowships
As a Faculty, we understand that Fellowship applications are complex and require careful planning and we can support you through the process.
Planning your application
- Discuss your research idea, fellowship opportunities and career suitability with your current supervisor. Your ECR lead is also a good source of advice and support
- Identify appropriate fellowships to apply for and funding streams that will help you build your preliminary data ready for application. The Research Funding Development Team can help you
- Seek out an academic mentor either through the University NUMentoring scheme, your ECR lead or the Director of Non-Clinical Fellowships
Building your CV
- Identify any training needs so that you can develop your technical and personal skills. Organisational Development can help with this
- Publish papers and present your work at conferences and workshops
- Establish internal and external networks and collaborations
- Apply for small grants for experience and funding to help you build preliminary data
Drafting and submitting your application
- Seek regular feedback from your supervisor, your mentor, your peers
- Contact the Pre-award Team for costing advice
- Meet with the Research Data Management team to review your data management documents
- Meet with the Research Funding Development Team who can advise on application content, collecting the relevant statements of support for your application and advising on eligibility for FMS Academic Track
- If invited to a fellowship interview, request a mock panel via your PI, Institute or Research Funding Development Team to prepare.
