Aims
This module will enable students to acquire a solid footing in project management by covering key theoretical concepts and techniques across the entire life cycle of a project from early feasibility through planning and execution to commissioning and handover.
Outline Of Syllabus
This module will cover topics related to project management. Content will be drawn from themes such as:
- Project lifecycle, stages of feasibility studies, and economic and financial methods of feasibility
- Project stakeholder management and communication
- Project planning and controlling
- Collaborative project procurement, cost estimating, bidding and contractor selection
- Risk management and value management
- People management
- Managing project and asset information in the digital age.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship
The module will be delivered using a mix of lecture, practical and asynchronous activities. There is one full day of Project Management simulation session undertaken in groups in a lab environment using a gamified real-world project. Knowledge of theory and practice are addressed within the activities with practical application being addressed within the project management simulation.

Assessment Rationale And Relationship
The individual essay will test student skills and abilities in addressing a selected management topic that is key to deliver effective and efficient projects. This is supplemented with the formative live simulation exercise which is key to mimic the dynamics of live projects where individuals work as part of teams and interact with a variety of stakeholders when making decisions. Finally, the group report will use reflection in groups to evaluate students’ abilities and skills developed during the live simulation exercise and other activities and will use the full reflective to develop a course of actions and improvement for the future.
