My career background is as a chief executive of technology and engineering SMEs and start-ups in both the USA and UK.

I am a qualified accountant with a strong finance, corporate development and business planning background. In 1988, following a series of senior financial and general management roles, I negotiated and financed an MBO of two US engineering companies. Following the successful growth of these businesses, I planned and negotiated their subsequent sale in 2000, generating a 15-fold return to the equity investors.

In addition to my core roles at Newcastle University, I was also Chairman of, and a business angel investor in, a profitable spin-out company.

I am now semi-retired from Newcastle University (2/5 FTE).
