Your safety and security
Personal safety and campus security
We’re committed to providing a secure, inclusive, and welcoming campus environment where you can focus on your studies with confidence.
Our University offers comprehensive support, including:
24/7 security services
Our University Security team is always present on campus, readily available for advice or assistance, and easily identifiable by their uniform.
They conduct regular campus patrols and closely monitor our CCTV. Whether you need late-night support or general guidance, their constant presence provides reassurance and peace of mind for everyone.
Student electronic key entry systems
To help maintain a secure campus environment, all students are issued electronic ID cards or key fobs providing controlled access to buildings, study spaces, and accommodation.
These systems ensure that only authorised individuals can enter specific areas.
Your electronic key or fob is easy to use - just tap or scan to enter. If it's lost or damaged, our support team is on hand to help with replacements.
Remember to carry it with you at all times to ensure easy and secure access around campus.
Student drop-in sessions with our campus Police Officer
These informal sessions are open to all students and provide a friendly, approachable space to ask questions, raise concerns, or simply get to know how we work with Northumbria Police.
The SafeZone app for instant assistance
The SafeZone app is a free safety app available to download for all students, providing instant access to campus security and emergency support. With just a tap, you can request help, report an incident, or ‘check in’ if you're working alone or feeling unsafe.
Whether it's a medical issue, personal safety concern, or general assistance, SafeZone connects you directly to our security team at anytime, anywhere on campus.
