Groundwater Assessment – Geological mapping CPD
In this module, you'll gain an appreciation of the data available via the BGS for the generation of 2D and 3D cross sections for the development of conceptual and numerical modelling.
Groundwater Assessment - Geological mapping programme
Dates: 8 February 2023 (1 day)
Venue: Newcastle University
About the programme
Participants will be familiar with the geological data held by the BGS and will be able to use those datasets to generate 2D and 3D geological cross sections.
There are no prerequisites for this program, however, a familiarity with geology and borehole logs would be beneficial.
Lectures
Morning:
- overview of the BGS data services and introduction to the data available online from the BGS online
- overview of various software available for mapping
- the fundamentals of source-pathway-receptor
- introduction to Groundhog
Afternoon:
- practical demonstration of Groundhog for the generation of 2D and 3D geological cross sections
- incorporating additional site-specific data into cross sections
