Reliability and Integrity Management of Marine Systems CPD

Gain an understanding of risk and reliability relating to integrity management decisions in a marine context, and how hazards are assessed and quantified using industry recognised techniques of FMECA and HAZOP.

Reliability and Integrity Management of Marine Systems programme

Dates: 6 - 10 February 2023 (5 days)

Venue: Newcastle University

About the programme

The purposes of this module are to:

  • introduce and develop the concepts of risk and reliability and demonstrate how these concepts relate to integrity management decisions
  • demonstrate how hazards are assessed and quantified using industry recognised techniques of FMECA and HAZOP
  • explain how subsea structures are maintained and inspected
  • deliver structural reliability theory and its application to marine structures

Introduction to the concepts of risk including:

  • quantitative
  • semi-quantitative
  • qualitative approaches
  • ALARP criteria
  • individual and societal risk factors

FMECA and HAZOPS:

  • use of failure modes and effects and criticality analysis to identify system and component failure
  • hazard and operability studies to identify hazards in offshore and subsea processes

Monitoring, Intervention and Inspection Methods:

  • the use of ROV’s, AUV’s, inspection vehicles and divers
  • monitor and maintain the subsea system

Data Management:

  • the use of data management systems to maintain records
  • inform the integrity management process

Structural reliability theory:

  • reliability-based limit state design of marine structures
