Meet Akash

Business Analytics MSc

Hello, I’m Akash. Back home in India, I had heard people say postgraduate teaching in the UK is extensively driven by research. This motivated me to apply so that I can learn about the most recent developments and case studies.

The application process was smooth and straightforward. There were designated mentors who could guide you through the process. I didn’t need any help as I found the process was seamless, but it was great to know I could've reached out to someone for help.

Teaching informed by research

I had looked at modules on offer at other universities, but Newcastle University’s stood out to me as the most interesting. They were the most practical, with a strong emphasis on technology and project management.

I loved the statistics module because the professor has done extensive research. He’s always excited to share his knowledge.

Beyond campus, there is such a strong sense of community here. If you need help with anything, reach out to people, there is an entire city ready to help you.

Internships and corporate visits

Every element of the University seems geared towards helping the students reach their goals. Recently I was selected to go on a corporate visit to London fully sponsored by Newcastle University!

I’m simply amazed by the support offered and the University’s investment in students’ success.

Internships and corporate visits

As part of my studies, I am also working at a Newcastle-based company to help them to improve their organisational efficiency. The internship team has not missed an opportunity to check on my progress or my experience.

From badminton to bee farms

In my spare time, I make the most of all the Newcastle University Students' Union (NUSU) offers. They organise everything from day trips to sports events. I have visited a bee farm, played badminton, gone to mini runs in Leazes Park, and more.

I also make sure I attend at least one networking session per month. The University organises infinite opportunities, so I handpick the ones that are relevant to my learning and professional goals.

I have been attending the accelerator group organised by NatWest. Newcastle has immense potential in terms of budding startups that are thirsty to become giants.

Incredible career support

My goal is to work as a strategy consultant in data analytics or project leadership, leveraging advanced analytics to help organisations improve operational efficiency.

The careers counsellors are amazing. I can’t stress this enough. They are ready to patiently listen to students’ concerns. The fact that the counsellor that I interacted with gave me solutions tailored to me was immensely helpful. For example, I received practical advice on my CV – what to include and what not to include.
