Good Health and Wellbeing
Ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all, at all ages.
UN Sustainable Development Goals
17 Sustainable Development Goals are at the core of the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. They represent a blueprint for peace and prosperity that all its member states adopted in 2015.
Find out more about how Newcastle University is working towards these goals to help create a better and fairer world.
Goal 3
Our Faculty of Medical Sciences is a key driver of our work towards this Sustainable Development Goal. Their research outcomes have helped advance local, national and international healthcare.
We have a range of wellbeing support for students and colleagues and encourage healthy lifestyles.
The University community acted fast when the Covid-19 pandemic came about. We took the health of our students, colleagues and people in our region seriously and put protection measures in place.
Our activity
Ground-breaking medical research
Newcastle University started as The School of Medicine and Surgery in 1834. Today, our Faculty of Medical Sciences offers world-class teaching and supports cutting-edge research. In Malaysia, just outside Johor, we also have NUMed Malaysia, offering medical and biomedical education.
Our Faculty of Medical Sciences in Newcastle houses three research institutes. Ground-breaking research comes out of our medical research facilities in Newcastle. These findings are applied to the UK’s National Health Service (NHS), and internationally.
Wellbeing support for staff and students
Students can access a range of support options for their wellbeing. We have multiple teams dedicated to student life and wellbeing.
Our Students’ Union has its own welfare and support centre, separate from the University’s. Here, students can access wellbeing support, resources, and information throughout their studies.
