Goal 12
We aim to reduce our consumption of materials and products to produce less waste. Where we produce waste, we ensure that it is treated using the most sustainable option.
We ensure that we follow sustainable procurement legislation. We also go above and beyond to continually increase sustainability in this area. We encourage sustainable purchasing across University activities.
Our activity
Sourcing of supplies and food
The University has a Sustainable Procurement Policy. This policy has objectives that include:
- compliance with legislation
- managing sustainability impacts
- continuous improvement
We also have a Sustainable Procurement Strategy. The strategy gives detail about how we assess and improve the sustainability of our procurement practices.
All new builds and renovations must adhere to our Sustainable Construction Specification. We align supply chain sustainability with the University’s sustainable procurement values.
Waste management
We commit to the principles of reduce, reuse and recycle.
Our Environmental Management System enables us to control waste disposal and improvement targets. Our Environmental Sustainability Policy includes a circular economy principles strategy for our waste management.
We track and measure output weights for all waste streams and report this data to the Higher Education Statistics Agency.
We dispose waste via registered waste carriers and treat it according to its hazard classification.
