Aims

The aim of this module is to explore how the HR function influences the operationalization of ethical and legal people practices to enhance the quality of working life.

Outline Of Syllabus

The syllabus is focused on the following key themes:

1. The factors that impact the quality of working life and the role of the HR function in the operationalization of a quality of working life environment;
2. How HR practices differ across countries in their approaches to enhancing the quality of working life, taking into account political, cultural, economic, and social considerations.
3. The ethical and legal factors that impact the operationalization of people practices;
4. The importance of professional and self-development of people professionals in the context of the CIPD’s Profession Map;
5. How organizations use a range of organizational performance data to enhance the quality of working life.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship

The teaching methods used are to reflect the applied and practical nature of the module. The lectures will present students with the underlying theoretical concepts and small group activities at the end of each lecture will allow students to demonstrate their understanding of the importance of these concepts. The purpose of workshops will be to prepare students for summative assessments by their involvement in peer discussions and feedback.

Semester 2: A 2,000-word business report assessing learning outcomes: KO 3&4 and SO 3.

Formative: Peer and tutor formative feedback will be given as part of the workshop activities. This will be supported by the drop-in surgeries.
