Aims

This module explores work, employment and responsible people management practices people within the wider social, political, cultural and economic context.

Outline Of Syllabus

The syllabus for this module focuses on four key themes:

1.The employment lifecycle: the key stages of the employment lifecycle; sustainable people management practices throughout the key stages of the employment lifecycle.
2.The employment relationship: the nature and context of the employment relationship; ethical and compassionate relationship practices.
3.Contemporary business issues: anticipating and responding to contemporary business challenges that impact responsible people management practices.
4. Human resource planning: future of work labour market trends and their significance for sustainable workforce planning.

The structured guided learning activities present the underpinning people management theories and contemporary academic and practitioner debates.

The workshops enable students to discuss and debate these concepts, develop their skills and work towards their final assessment.

The drop-in surgeries provide support for assessment queries.

Formative Assessment is an assessment which develops your skills in being assessed, allows for you to receive feedback, and prepares you for being assessed. However, it does not count to your final mark.

Assessment Rationale And Relationship

Formative Assessment

Formative assessment will take place within the workshop sessions. A series of contemporary business issues related to the module case study will be discussed and debated assisting the students with their final assessment.

Summative Assessment

A 3000 word case study analysis of contemporary workforce challenges related to the responsible and ethical management of people.

Feedback Strategy

Formative: Peer and tutor formative feedback will be given as part of the workshop activities. This will be supported by the drop-in surgeries.

Summative: Summary feedback will be given related to the content and presentation of the report in accordance with the assessment marking criteria.
