Aims

This module provides a practice-based alternative to the other available capstone modules.

Drawing on learning across the programme of study, the module provides students with an
opportunity to apply their learning to practical business challenges via the development of students'
own business concept.

This module aims to provide an opportunity to:

1. identify and develop a business idea/concept in the current global environment;
2. evaluate empirical evidence and management information to inform your understanding of the
feasibility of the business concept;
3. appreciate the complexities and constant change in managing commercially in a global context; and
4. demonstrate decision-making skills, reflective practice, and appreciation of ethical considerations
in the context of business development.

Outline Of Syllabus

There is no set syllabus for this module because it will involve independent development of a
business concept of the students' choosing, demonstrating their application of management, human
resources, entrepreneurship, innovation, and enterprise. Students will be encouraged to scope out
their business concept as, for example: 1) Pure-play start-up; 2) Small/family business seeking to
grow; or 3) Larger/corporate business seeking to develop new business unit. The module aims to
develop student decision making, creativity and project management skills. It provides an
opportunity for those who have business ideas to extend their learning through the design and
execution of practical research for which they have interest and enthusiasm. Supporting classes will
include the following topics:

Strategic analysis
e.g. internal, external, competitor, stakeholder analysis

Project management
e.g. role of the project manager, defining project scope, ethics and risk, costs and budgeting, human resources

Communicating to different audiences
e.g. written and visual materials

Reflective practice and ethics
e.g. continuous professional development
