Aims

To prepare and shape a portfolio of creative work consisting of a collection of about 20 poems or equivalent, and an accompanying essay on the processes, influences, and themes of the work.

Outline Of Syllabus

An introductory talk, followed by monthly tutorials with a supervisor over the duration of two semesters.

All students must attend the Module Talk and each student must attend a tutorial once a month to report on work in progress for comment and discussion with the module leader.

The meetings listed above are the basic requirement. The specific amount of time will vary from student to student.

Creative work of this sort needs both the clear over-riding structure of the meetings listed above and greater flexibility in terms of the duration and frequency of further discussion.

Assessment Rationale And Relationship

Both the poetry collection and accompanying essay will show evidence of the processes of drafting, principles of selection, the uses of influence, and the key themes explored in the file. The portfolio must include a bibliography of books read and events attended as evidence of research.
