Aims
This module focuses on UK housing policy. It charts the evolution of policy and practice from the cross-party consensus at end of World War 2 through to what might be described as the new consensus on owner occupation. It considers how global shifts such as the subprime crisis in the US and climate emergency impact on our housing. It explores the housing issues that beset politicians and practitioners: affordability, dealing with homelessness, the health implications of poor housing, the role of planning and the need for aspirational standards.
The aims are
1) To give you a grounding in the evolution of UK housing policy and the differential impact of these on different societal groups
2) To provide an appreciation of the dynamic and intensely political nature of housing policy and practice in the UK
3) To interpret data and consider how it is used in policy making
Outline Of Syllabus
