One Community Network

Newcastle University. One Community. Infinite possibilities.

Our exciting new initiative

The One Community Network brings together people who have a shared interest in being part of the lifelong Newcastle University community:

  • retired staff
  • current staff
  • current students
  • graduate alumni who are based in the North East

We aim to realise the vision and concept of One Community. Through collaborative projects, participation and mutual support we want to capture and mobilise our rich diversity of:

  • skills
  • experience
  • perspectives
  • contacts
  • enthusiasm
  • intellectual capital

The network offers members:

  • opportunities to collaborate with others within the wider University community
  • a place to share ideas, experience, expertise and contacts, promote/attend University events, share news, volunteer for a range of activities and more
  • an opportunity to contribute to the University’s thinking on developments and strategies
  • a comprehensive calendar of events, talks, discussions, sporting activities and societies open to all members.
  • opportunities to provide mutual support through shared experiences
  • a platform for sharing experience, expertise, life-skills and contacts
  • a platform for finding people who can solve problems, drawing on the huge pool of expertise and professional experience
  • a place to maintain contact with each other and with the University
  • an opportunity to establish new connections across generations

Background

The network builds on the enthusiasm and vision created through two workshops. We explored the substantial opportunities that could emerge from a grassroots approach to working more closely together.

Our partners

It is supported and facilitated by the following partner organisations and groups:

  • NURSA (Newcastle University Retired Staff Association)
  • NU Advancement (Alumni Office)
  • NUSU (Newcastle University Students’ Union)
  • VOICE

Membership and governance

One Community Network membership is free. It's open to all Newcastle University retired staff, current staff, current students and graduate alumni who live in the North East of England.

The development of the network is being led by Lesley Braiden (formerly Academic Registrar and member of NURSA Steering Group) and Lily Moore (NU Advancement). It will be supported by a steering group (to be established).
